Can you delegate?

I know this is a silly question as we all say “Yes”.

However, what I am really asking is, do you do everything?

So many people work incredibly hard just to survive, but when you ask about some of the basics they reply, “I know I should be doing this but have seen how busy I am”.

This is when we start looking at what they can delegate, and then we hit another problem.  How to afford it?

This is when we start looking at what they can delegate, and then we hit another problem.  How to afford it?

An example is bookkeeping, you have to record all those receipts, it takes time and if you are not organised, even longer.  Meantime you are busy running the business, so it gets left behind until the end of the year. Oh dear, it comes along so quickly.  All you can do is put them all in a big plastic bag and dump them with the accountant.  Great you think, that’s sorted.  It is until he delivers his bill!

Wouldn’t it be so much cheaper to employ someone to pop in every so often to sort these receipts out and put them in a sense of order.  You would save money as at the year end the accountant will charge so much less, your bookkeeper has paid for his or herself.

It is not just bookkeepers, I regularly talk to small companies of the benefits of social networking, Facebook, Linkedin, etc.  Again, they have set up sites and profiles, but are too busy to keep them up.

Delegate it to someone else, it is so easy, and much more importantly it gives you more time to concentrate on your core skill, which is why you started your business.

I know it sounds easy, but you will find if you invest in delegating all those little frustrating jobs that are essential to a business it will pay off. You just have got to be brave enough to do it.

It will pay off.
